Ayurvedic Treatments for Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disorder resulting from degeneration of neurons in a region of the brain that controls movement creating a shortage of the brain signaling chemical dopamine, causing the movement impairments that characterising the disease. It has probably existed for many thousands of years. Its symptoms and potential therapies were mentioned in the Ayurveda under the name KAMPAVATA.

Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations:

  • Physical and mental relaxation
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Warm baths and regular massage will help relax tired muscles.
  • Mild exercises daily to build stamina.
  • Avoid using stepladders or stools to reach high objects.
  • Slowdown when you feel yourself in hurry.
  • Don't overdo physical activities. Know your limits and stay within them.
  • When your hands or feet get cold wear gloves or warm socks.
  • The juice from various fruits like apple, pineapple, grapes, orange, tomato, carrot, cabbage and spinach are good
  • Fruits such a papaya, grape, orange and pineapple, apple, pear are good
  • Plenty of nuts, grains and sprouts should be included in the diet
  • The patient should avoid all processed food and frozen foods like tea, coffee, salt, spices, pickles, cold drinks, white flour, white sugar and chocolates. 

Ayurvedic home remedies you can try:

  • Prepare 4 cups of boiling water with 20gms of Larkspur and have 3 times per day
  • Drinking raw milk plays a vital role in preventing Parkinson’s disease.
  • Velvet Beans is a commonly available form of wild beans. This seed has been traditionally used in ancient Indian medicines to treat neurological disorders like Parkinson or epilepsy.

 Treatment in Ayurveda:
Ayurveda offers very good cure for this disease if diagnosed and treated in the early stages.
In the later stages Ayurvedic treatments can prevent the progress of disease and reduce the symptoms.
Therapies like Shirodhara, Sirovasti, Nasyam etc are used along with internal medication and diet and lifestyle changes.
